I bought this book after meeting the author. I was very cautious as I started reading because it was dealing with medieval romance. At least that is what I first believed. Once I started the book, i was immediately enthralled with the main characters. The author spends much time in both the main guy's head as well as the main girl's head. Many authors are unable to understand the other sex and how their thought process works. Smyser is one of the best and understanding the differences that set us so far apart yet are so crucial into why we need the opposite sex. This book has romance but it is so well done. It also has action and adventure. Another thing that it does well is have awesome secondary characters. As you read you will be interested in each one and what makes them tick. One avenue that seems to be Teresa Smyser's bread and butter is perception and how so many times people get a false sense of perception and the traps or arguments and where they can lead. If you enjoy medieval stories, this is a great one. Honestly if this book had been written forty years ago this book would have been critically acclaimed. Today's culture wants too much r rated dialogue or action. The reason it resonates with me and will resonate with most of the people who read it will be that good is good and evil is evil. It is more along the lines of a Tolkien Novel then some of the novels of today. If you buy this book and read the first three chapters you will be hooked.
