I read this book after reading Lady at Last (with Tyrell and Lizzie). I usually never read out of chronology, but I was intrigued by Rex and Blanche. Plus, I have a soft spot for "Beauty and the beast" romances. I liked that both characters were flawed, it made sense why they fell in love (and not just because the other person is hot), they took time to get to know each other (8 years in the making), and the conflict wasn't drawn out, if you've read Brenda Joyce novels before, sometimes it takes a year for the hero and heroine to get over some misunderstanding, and that just makes the middle of the books quite anguishing. This book had drama, conflict, but moved at a good pace. The conflicts didn't seem forced. One thing that I really loved about this book is that the two main characters were each other's answer for loneliness. In different ways, Blanche and Rex were so isolated from other people that it was really touching to see them find each other, and in some ways, help take the other person's walls down.
